High hopes, no expectations
Future. Vast, uncharted sea of possibilities, uncertainties, surprises… Those of us who learn swim young often jump in without hesitation. Confident in abilities coached and hours of practice and play. Those of us who have the advantage do not fear to leave the shore and board a boat, chin up and eyes on the horizon. Some see the horizon as a dream, are never taught to swim, and are even taught to fear the waters depths expecting the worst. The expectation that things should work a certain way has its own pitfalls even when the intent is betting on the positive outcome.
Hope. Is that horizon over the sea. Endless possibilities, uncertainties, surprises... If we knew exactly what would happen, there would be no room for growth, discover, or dreams. Challenges are opportunities to adapt and evolve. To prove to our selves that we are capable of more than we once believed. Without Expectations. We should not expect to be rewarded for specific actions. Be constructive, rather than destructive. History has shown that humanity thrives in uncertainty. not because of having the answers but because there are those of us who dare to set sail. Hoping for a better tomorrow.
Everyday I try. I can not help but surrender to the sirens song and follow the setting sun over that distant burning line into what could be… I have been stretched thin these past few years, but have be so fortunate to maintain high hopes. Some of that is due to perseverance, but a lot of it is those who have lent me their strength. They have helped me to stop the leaks, steer clear of the rocks, hoist the sails… They have reminded me to appreciate the silver linings in the storm clouds and watch for the signs of change in the waters.
So in these uncertain times, take a deep breath with me, and test the waters. Swim. Use the tools you have gleaned from years of experience to build your boat. Sail forward with high hopes, you needn’t see the whole path and you can not see the wind but you can learn to read the waves, the clouds… take note of the birds in the air and seas on which you travel. Stay curious. Stay kind. Stay the course.
